TAKE UP
A CHALLENGE
Take up a challenge such as a trek or a running event. Philip does an annual long distance trek each year (2021 – Offa’s Dyke, 2022 – The Pennine Way) and in August 2023 will be taking on the Pembroke Coast Path. He’s very happy for you to join him for a leg or legs in return for raising some sponsorship. You may wish to consider trekking in Nepal itself, in which case we can introduce you to our colleagues at The Mountain Company to explore opportunities.
PARTICIPATE IN
BIG GIVE EVENT
At least four times per year we run short public “Big Give” appeals for different aspects of our work that allow all donations to double in value. These donations can be made as pledges beforehand or as online gifts during the appeal. If you are interested in automatically doubling the value of your charitable giving at no extra cost, drop us a line and we can discuss what is involved.
COMMISSION
A MOSAIC
In our Dhanushadham Bird Park project, launched in September 2021, we are rewilding a barren public space in Dhanusha District, southeast Nepal. Our aim is to create a verdant "tiny forest" using the Miyawaki rapid-growth method for the first time in Nepal. The Park will be an attraction to wildlife, scientists and tourists and provide an environmental and artistic insight for the many schoolchildren who visit on field trips. Let's hope we can inspire the eco-warriors of the future.
At various points in and around the forest we will be siting colourful bird mosaics, made by Philip Holmes who is a passionate mosaic hobby artist. The mosaics are made from glass tiles (smalti) from Venice and Mexico, with fused glass inserts that Philip makes in his kiln. He aims to bring the birds that visit the forest close to the visitor and that the artworks are every bit as dazzling as the feathered originals.
You can become part of this exciting project and leave your mark in Nepal by commissioning one of these mosaics. You can commission in celebration of a special occasion such as a birthday, wedding or anniversary. Or alternatively, you may wish to commemorate a loved one through a lasting piece of beautiful art.

The adult literacy rate is a direct result of the poor education system, which has the worst results nationwide. However, when looking at adult literacy rates, enrollment rates, and elementary school completion rates, it is clear that there are wide disparities between communities within the Madheshi region, notably between castes. While the enrollment rate of Madheshi Brahmin children is 79% (higher than the national average of 71%), the enrollment rate of Madheshi Dalit children is extremely low, with less than 50% of children enrolled and less than one in ten children completing elementary school.
