Saturday the 22nd of April is World Earth Day, and to mark that occasion you can take part in a special funding opportunity. Through The Big Give's Green Match Fund appeal, donations to environmental projects will automatically double in value. Our project is to extend the Gurkha Memorial Forest that we are developing in southeast Nepal.
The Forest will commemorate Gurkha heroism since 1939 while creating a vital wildlife corridor that will cross Nepal's southern plains. As funds come available, we are creating 13 dense forest clusters, one for each Gurkha Victoria Cross (VC) won since 1939. These living memorials will form the core of the wildlife corridor.
We have already purchased and prepared the land for the first two "VC-forests" and these will be planted when the monsoon rains arrive in June.Through this appeal, we are aiming to raise a further £45,000 that will allow us to set up the next two VC-forests.These will be dedicated to the loyalty and courage of Gurkha soldiers Tulbahadur Pun VC and Bhanbhagta Gurung VC. See the film below to find out about Bhanbhagta's remarkable single-handed exploit in the Burmese jungle.
Please donate now using the button below. £10 pays for one square metre of forest (nine saplings) and through The Big Give you can fund two square metres for the same price!
